Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does a BFSI domain consultant do?

A BFSI Transformation Consultant helps financial institutions identify process, technology, customer experience and operational improvements and supports the design and implementation of transformation initiatives. In my case, that means requirement gathering and BRD/PRD authoring, UAT governance, Power BI and analytics build-out, customer journey redesign and regulatory compliance work across KYC, AML, RBI, and IRDAI frameworks. I've done this from both sides - as the business stakeholder and as the consultant writing the requirements - which is fairly rare.

Are you available for remote roles, or only onsite in India?

Remote-first. I've delivered full transformation programmes - BRDs, UAT cycles, stakeholder workshops, Power BI builds - without needing to be physically present every day. I'm equally open to hybrid or onsite arrangements if the role calls for it, including relocation for the right opportunity in GCC, UK, US, or Europe.

What industries and functions have you actually worked in?

Retail and HNI/Affluent banking, wealth management, bancassurance, and life insurance distribution - at IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Allianz, HDFC Life, and ICICI Prudential. Within those, I've worked across business analysis, digital banking transformation, customer success, and business analytics. I'm not claiming expertise in industries I haven't actually worked in.

Can you show real examples, not just a skills list?

Yes - that's what the Projects page on this site is for. Four detailed case studies with the actual challenge, my specific role, the actions taken, and the measured outcome. No hypothetical scenarios. Every number is traceable to a real engagement at a named organisation.

  • 05
Do you only do Business Analysis or also hands-on analytics work?

Both, and that combination is intentional. I write BRDs and govern UAT, but I also build the Power BI dashboards and SQL models that those requirements eventually feed into. Understanding both ends of that pipeline is what let me eliminate 12+ hours of manual weekly reporting at HDFC Bank and IndusInd Bank — I could see exactly where the reporting process was breaking down because I understood the business requirement it was meant to serve.

  • 06
What's your notice period / how quickly can you start?

Immediate joiner. There's no notice period holding up an engagement start date.

  • 07
Do you work on contract/consulting engagements, or only full-time roles?

Both. I'm open to full-time employment, fixed-term contracts, and consulting engagements - whatever structure fits the project. If you're unsure which makes sense, mention it in your message and I'll tell you honestly which model I think fits your situation.

What compliance and regulatory frameworks are you familiar with?

KYC, AML, FATCA, PMLA, RBI guidelines, SEBI regulations, and IRDAI compliance — all from direct working experience, not classroom study. I hold active certifications as an IRDAI Insurance Advisor and AMFI Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN), which required passing real regulatory exams, not just completing a course.

  • 09
What tools and platforms do you actually use day to day?

Finacle and Flexcube for core banking, Power BI (DAX and Power Query) and SQL for analytics, Advanced Excel and VBA for macro-driven reporting, Agile/Scrum for delivery governance. I also use AI tools - ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude - for drafting acceleration, not as a replacement for domain judgment.
